Like nearly all of the communities in the Jordan Valley, it began as a rural farming community and continued as such until industrial growth and the need for additional residential communities in Ogden and Salt Lake City transformed it into a bedroom community for commuters.
Although primarily a residential community, Woods Cross provides a home to many small business enterprises and is partially sustained by the two major thoroughfares that pass through its eastern and western edges. Recreational opportunities in Hogan and Mills Parks as well as nearly a dozen smaller parks are enhanced by easy access to the Legacy Nature Preserve wetlands habitat to the west of the Legacy Parkway.
