Early farmers settled at the base of the northern Oquirrh Mountains and called their community Pleasant Green in 1868, but it developed into a thriving community in the first half of the 20th century, thanks to the construction of the Magna Copper Mill. It wasn’t until 1914 that Magna, UT got its name, and it was 87 years before the community received township status.
The suburban transition of Magna didn’t start until the 1960s, but it has continued to become an affordable middle class residential community well into the 21st century. Magna is home to the historic Empress Theatre (1916) and the community is loaded with parks, a recreation center, a community garden, and the Copper Club Golf Course.
