First known as the North Cottonwood Settlement, Farmington, UT began with the establishment of a farm and inn by the Haight family in 1847 and saw rapid growth with the addition of five other pioneer families who arrived in 1849. Directed by Mormon leadership to build a wall around the townsite in 1953, it was often referred to as “the Fort.”
One of the earliest amusement parks in America, the Lagoon Amusement Park, a seasonal theme park/water park that continues to offer thrill rides, live shows, a pioneer village, and camping, was established in Farmington in 1886. In addition to the S&S Shortline Railroad Park & Museum, residents and visitors alike enjoy easy access to 36 named trails in an extensive system that traverses hills in the east and wetlands in the west and include 55 points of interest.
