The Importance of Regular Hearing Tests after 50

by | Jul 10, 2024 | Hearing Test, Patient Resources

If you’re reading this and you’ve been struggling with your hearing recently, you’re not alone – hearing loss is very normal for adults of all ages, not just those in their golden years!

Think of all the loud sounds you’ve heard over your lifetime. Live events like concerts and sports games, busy nightclubs or school dances in your youth, busy church services, loud children at the playground… there’s so many places you can inadvertently damage your hearing.

You’re not too young, or too old, to deal with a hearing loss challenge. We’ve seen hundreds of patients from all walks of life come in for assistance with their hearing, from young children to older adults, and we offer the same help to all of them.

How Can a Hearing Assessment Help Me?

When individuals find that they’re struggling with their hearing, quite often, they won’t seek out help until it starts to affect their day-to-day life. Asking for constant repetition, missing instructions at work, and feeling left out of conversations… sound like you?

Hearing loss can be isolating, frustrating, and worrying. Thankfully, it’s easy to treat – and just one comprehensive hearing assessment can help you understand your current range of hearing, so you can observe how it changes as you age.

Age-related hearing loss, also called presbycusis, happens to all of us as we get older; that’s part of why hearing aids are so linked with aging and not in a positive way. But for many younger people, hearing loss can come from other sources much earlier.

Genetic predisposition, infections, accidents, and noise exposure can all lead to hearing loss before aging can play a factor. But there’s no shame in dealing with hearing loss; it’s more common than you’d think!

Almost 38 million American adults ages 18 and over report some trouble hearing, and that number isn’t all older adults.

With the help of comprehensive hearing assessments, you can understand what your current level of hearing looks (or sounds) like, and see what you need to succeed, whether that be hearing aids or to turn the volume down on your TV.

Personalized hearing care could help you rejoin the conversations you’ve been missing. If you’re here reading this, you’re already taking a step in the right direction.
