Looking to Improve the Performance of Your Hearing Aids? Try These 3 Tips

by | Jan 10, 2025 | Hearing Aids, Patient Resources

Your hearing aids aren’t just your way back to hearing the life you love—they’re an investment into your bodily health that improves your quality of life along with your listening capabilities.

When your devices aren’t working or fitting as they used to, it can be frustrating and worrying to think that the devices you rely on for your world aren’t performing the way they need to.

Before you panic (or worse, throw the devices out), try these three things to help rejuvenate your hearing aids.

1. Clean Your Hearing Aids

Hearing aids provide great hearing and enhanced listening comprehension, but due to their placement in your ears, earwax can sometimes lead to issues hearing or a feeling that your devices are about to fall out of your ears.

With a dry microfiber cloth, give your hearing aids a clean to remove excess wax; changing the wax guard can also help with troubles of feedback or choppy hearing.

2. A Factory Reset

It’s often the simple fixes that work wonders—for hearing aids that don’t want to turn on, or if you can’t hear anything at all, try turning them off and on again!

For rechargeable hearing aids, put them into the charging dock overnight; unpairing and re-pairing your devices from your phone can sometimes help with Bluetooth connection issues.

3. Adjust the Fit

Our ears grow with us; if your hearing aids feel loose or unstable in your ears, it could be that your ears have changed shape, or your current hearing aids no longer fit properly after continued use and wear.

With different earpieces for certain models, or a quick cleaning of your ears, you can find the best fit for your hearing aids without sacrificing sound quality.

Hearing Aid Tune-Ups With Utah Ear Institute

If your hearing aids are causing frustration, and none of the three above fixes worked to alleviate that stress, a hearing aid performance revamp could be the answer to your concerns.

By rejuvenating your current devices, you can see lasting results that improve the fit, listening capabilities, and general performance. Here, your audiologist will perform an extensive hearing assessment and professional cleaning of your hearing aids, as well as several other assessments, to ensure your devices are working for your listening preferences and hearing needs.

You can rest assured that your devices will be fully rejuvenated to the best of our abilities to make sure that you’re hearing the sounds you want and none of the ones you don’t.
