I’m pleased to announce that I have become a Certificate Holder in Tinnitus Management (CH-TM) — a great new tool to add to my roster!
The CH-TM program allows audiologists to become further certified in ensuring quality tinnitus treatment, utilizing the current evidence and experience that we have to help hearing care specialists treat their patients dealing with tinnitus, misophonia, hyperacusis, and phonophobia.
Through this program, I learned about the prevalence of tinnitus across America, the different types and characteristics of tinnitus, varied approaches to help patients with tinnitus, how to educate patients and other providers about tinnitus symptoms and treatment, and more.
The CH-TM certification allows me to help our patients with tinnitus treat their symptoms with renewed expertise and further understanding. I’m so glad I got the chance to get this certification, so I can continue to help my patients with their tinnitus symptoms.
What Is Tinnitus?
Tinnitus is a symptom of hearing loss that is characterized by a buzzing, ringing, or whistling noise in your ears. While we don’t know what exactly causes it, it’s often been linked to hearing loss challenges, ear infections, medications, and head injuries – ever seen that scene in a movie where someone goes through an explosive noise event and the audio is just a high-pitched buzzing?
Tinnitus affects approximately 75% of Americans in different ways; constant or intermittent, that ringing, buzzing, or whistling noise in your ears is distracting and frustrating for those who deal with it. Tinnitus symptoms can lead to mental health issues, fatigue from lack of sleep, and hearing loss.
Tinnitus can only be ignored for so long. If you’re dealing with tinnitus symptoms or have a loved one who has been complaining about a ringing or buzzing in their ears that won’t go away, know that you’re not alone – and that our team can help you overcome it.
